View of the Great Stone Door |
Beersheba, TN |
Stone Door, named for a 150-foot deep crevice, is one of the many attractions that await visitors along the Stone Door hiking trail. The first section of the hiking trail leading to Stone Door is paved until Laurel Gulf Overlook and is handicap accessible. This part of the trail offers close up views of Mountain Laurel during the spring. After Laurel Gulf Overlook the hiking trail then turns to dirt and continues under the shade of trees on to the Great Stone Door, where a small crevice with stone steps awaits those who want to journey down off of the plateau. Stop at the several overlooks before walking down the crevice, these overlooks offer spectacular views and give a sense of the vertical distance between the plateau and the valley floor. For those who love to rock climb or rappel, sign up at the rangers station and get further information on the different spots these activities are allowed. | |
